My Online Social Networking

How about automating the whole bunch of it? But what’s the point if I’m just gonna pose like a robot to my friends and colleagues. Then again how on earth am I going to find time for all 64 of them (ok, I admit. 64 is bit exaggerated).

Looking back at my approach to social networking for marketing a blog, I found out that being a human on social networking sites has helped me gain some exposure. What I had done wrong was to become impatient with the ‘time consuming stratergy’. Now here’s the dilemma, I really want to build a quality network around me at the same time I don’t want to spend hours and hours on social sites. There is no way out… is there?

I remember those days when one whole day felt like a very long time gap. Specially at school where 6 hours was more than enough to study 4 subjects, play cricket and loiter around having fun. I miss those days. Nowadays I wake up in the morning and next thing, it’s already dark. There isn’t any time for next thing. I look back at the previous days tasks and I hate myself for piling up work. Whatever happend to the ‘time’.  But don’t mistake me for a lazy person. I’m ever so efficient in whatever I’m interseted in doing. In this case I do like socialising and having a chat. How many networks though?

Overwhelmed with social media, my quest continues to find the right balance between time and value. Of course it is highly prominent that I keep on top of my social media stratergy.  It’s not always about links and traffic.  As Lisa pointed out on her post at DavidRisley.com it’s about giving and helping others who may in return help me in the future.

In conclusion, I have a small real life story for you. My college life was full of experiences with different sorts of friends. I sat for my advanced level (sri lankan A/L is the exam for university entrance) for engineering in 2000. Things were getting tougher as there was immense competition. I observed within the bright ones there were two sorts. First kind is very helpful and collaborative towards the less gifted (like me ;) ). Second of the kind would not be so. Why? because they thought they could beat the competition to a certain extend if others did not learn what they learnt. But I can tell you now, friends who willingly helped others, got through with ease and in flying colors too.

So the best practice in social networking is no different.  Share, help and collaborate is the way forward. Don’t you think so?

  1. Hi Ameen,

I ended up at your website by accident, or was it fate, or was it what my father called- “circumstance of coincidence”? I don’t know although I believe in it all (“it” being the value-added thread of life running in and out each breath I take) connecting the seconds to minutes and the minutes to hours and the hours to days, and like Linda Ellerbee says, “and so it goes”. Getting back to the beginning of my explanation of just how I got here, at your website, but I get off track (I’ll blame it on ADD), but this here writing or rambling is not an objective affirmation since I AM not there but here at my home in Texas… the point is that instead of correctly remembering the name of the website I wanted to go, I landed in your website. Once at your website I didn’t tapout, in other words, leave your site. It is rather routine, generally speaking, people end up at time in places (how it can be either one or the other–emotional or physical and in combination of the two) where we don’t or didn’t intend, or even want to be. At your site, I read and looked around a bit. You express yourself well in the English language and appear an educated man residing in Sri Lanka- cheers!. The website where I wanted to go was all about expensive motorcycles.

OKAY, what I want to say is that a few of the primary topics I read about at your website, like the sale of domain names and social networking in that namely you questioned the inherent laborious engaging role of social networking (being patient or not). A process moving from one site to another that is a pain in the tokias.

Let me share with you what I learned about only today, and this is why I had mentioned earlier about circumstance of coincidence… today I began to construct a website and had visited GoDaddy.com, hence domain names and the buying and selling of domain names. Your subjects. Today, I learned about a new product GoDaddy offers– SMART SPACE… a product that allows you to combine all of your social networks conveniently in one spot where you can move freely between each one; however, I recall there may be a limit of moving between no more than four sites. This product, SMART SPACE allows a person to custom tailor their website taking “full” advantage by showcasing the combination of their social networks in one place.

Well, good luck with your life ending up the way you want though knowing that what we want now may be very different to what we may come to relish as important in the future.

By the way, I am a POET and soon my website wll be live literally, with my poetry! So, please, do come around.

    Regards,

    CSR

    • Dear Chip,

I read your comment with great interest and it’s readers like you who gives me the urge to keep going, no matter what. I’m glad you found my articles interesting and I can’t thank you enough for this comprehensive comment.
‘circumstance of coincidence’ or fate? Whichever it is, the way I see, it’s definitely not by accident or random. Because I believe, everything happens for a reason and there’s nothing called random. I gather that you share the same view.

I will definitely have a look at SMART SPACE. Thanks again!

      I cannot agree more with…

‘what we want now may be very different to what we may come to relish as important in the future.’

Infact, it’s always been true when I look few years back in my life. At the end of the day, what we all want is peace and happiness in life, at least most of us.

All the very best with your website and I really want to read more from you. You just have one more to add to your fan club. If I can be of any assistance in putting up your website, please let me know.

If I had the chance to write a script for another MasterCard ad, it would be….

      A domain name $10
      Hosting $100
The readership of people like CSR….. Priceless!

      Cheers!

  2. we need to interact with people humanly to avoid being mistaken for as a bot or a spammer, if we want popularity for our website then we need to collaborate with other people and try to help them out. also we need to know what they like and what doesn’t.

  3. I couldn’t agree more! I was searching on bing when I found your post, and I found just what I was looking for. I’ve added your rss feed to my Google reader, I look forward to more posts from you. Thanks!

  4. i would not have concluded this had been interesting a couple years in the past yet somehow it is surprising just how age changes the way you have an understanding of individual ideas, thank you regarding the piece of writing it is actually pleasing to browse through something intelligent occasionally instead of the widely seen nonsense mascarading as blogs and forums on the net, i’m off to have fun with a few hands of zynga poker, take care
