One Character .BIZ Domain Names

One character .BIZ domain names are scheduled to be auctioned at Sedo later this month. There has been some discussion over this and the majority of the domain community seem to think that the auction will flop. Nevertheless, there are only 36 of them. So the extreme rarity of these names could be a real tempter.

Overstock.com has already won the O.biz through the RFP process and intends to launch a B2B site at this domain name. Rest of the names which are not claimed through RFP process will go on auction at Sedo on 23rd September 2009.

My personal opinion is that .BIZ names suck regardless of the character count. Any website or business set up behind a .BIZ name gives an ugly first impression to the user about the authority of the company. Although .BIZ is the 10th most registered TLD in the world, I can’t see a business registering a .BIZ unless for the purpose of protecting a trademark. Simply put there is no value added to a business with a .BIZ campaign.

So my evaluation of single character .BIZ is no more than 4k for letters and no more than 2k for numbers, and the price is purely based on the fact these domains are extremely rare. Only exception would be e.BIZ, because of the meaning it produces with combination of the TLD.

What do you think these one character .biz domains will sell for in average?
